Namibian film nominated for international online competition

THE Namibian short film ‘Everything Happens for a Reason’, self-financed and directed by German Namibian filmmaker Florian Schott, has made it into the Top 10 of this year’s Afrinolly Short Film Competition, an online competition featuring films from all over Africa.

The Afrinolly Competition was conceived in 2011 for Africans all over the world to showcase their films and, by now, has over three million downloads.

The judging panel for the competition is comprised of international film and documentary experts and influencers from various African countries and the United States. The films submitted will be juried by an illustrious panel led by the award-winning filmmaker and writer Femi Odugbemi.

The competition was designed to expand conversations on issues of the African continent by Africans and motivate and reward young and emerging filmmakers who exhibit exceptional narrative skills using short movies and documentary as a medium. Afrinolly was the winner of the Google Android Developers Challenge in 2011 in the Entertainment Category as a mobile application focused on promoting African entertainment most especially African movies, music and celebrities.

Momentarily, Florian Schott is busy working on the Namibian independent feature film ‘Katutura’ which will be released later this year.

‘Everything Happens for a Reason’ features Namibian actors Chops Tshoopara, Muhindua Kaura, Joel Haikali, Lize Ehlers, David Ndjavera and Lynn Strydom and has an award winning team behind the camera as well, with Sophie Mukenge Kabongo as co-producer, who won the Namibian film award for ‘Try’ in 2012, as well as editor Haiko Boldt who also won the award for ‘Dead River’ in the same year.

If you want ‘Everything Happens for a Reason’ to win the prestigious first prize, vote for it on http://afrinollyshortfilmcompetition.com/vote.php.
