Namibian Men’s Hair Trends

If there’s one country with a population who always likes to look good, it would be Namibia. Known as Land of the Brave (and perhaps even the Land of the Stylish), no matter where you are in the country, you will always encounter wonderful characters who express their uniqueness through their hair and style.

While many believe that women are the ones who spend most of their time in salons getting their best do’s, nowadays, men are spending just as much time making sure they look good.

Pop culture and worldwide trends have a lot of influence on what happens in and on the heads of Namibian guys and that’s evident with the latest hair crazes.

Man Buns

Man buns started taking Namibia by storm about a year ago and were mostly influenced by the likes of Jared Leto, Leonardo DiCaprio and famous footballer Gareth Bale. There’s no question that the trend picked up quite quickly. This hairstyle requires a lot of patience for you to firstly grow your hair, then simply tie it in bun on top of your head. Though many men have been sporting this hairstyle for a while, it only recently became a hit, with everyone from toddlers to the manliest men rocking the do.

Top Knots

Similar to man buns, top knots are man buns with a little more effort. They require you to constantly keep the sides short too. Top knots are also known as ‘undercut man buns’.

Braids

This hairstyle has been around for some time and has always been popular, especially in the earlier parts of the 2000s. With that being said, you still find men who pull this look off with little effort. Braids are a complex pattern formed by weaving three or more strands of hair down your head. Also known as cornrows or plaits, this style will probably still be around for a few more decades.

Dreadlocks

Dreads have been become very popular around the world since the most famous dreaded man – Bob Marley. Similar to ol’ Bob, the men from Savannah Afros pull off this look in unison. Dreads are matted ropes of hair where different methods are used to form locks such as backcombing, braiding, rolling and the crochet hook method. While most believe that dreads are dirty and never have to be washed, the formation of evenly-sized dreadlocks takes planning, maintenance and much hair care.

Mohawks

Inspired by the Beckhams and Ronaldos of the world, mohawks have become the most widely seen hairstyle, especially amongst sporty guys, namely soccer and rugby players. Mohawks require you to shave the sides of the hair, leaving just the middle part of the hair to be sculpted and styled to your heart’s desire.

Fades

This style is pretty simple and easy to pull off. However, flawless fades can really make a man feel good after stepping out of the barbershop. Fades start off really short and get darker and the hair slightly longer as you reach the top of the head, hence the title fade. This style is clean, elegant and will suit any man who likes a clean cut image.

Graphics

For those who love the simplicity of fades, but still prefer the adventurous side of things, graphics are good way to go. They can range from simple lines and shapes to more extravagant designs featuring different images and styles.
