A group of seven Namibian swimmers competed at the recent FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Singapore where they established eight individual and two national relay records.
The fifth junior world champs took place from 25 to 30 August and saw close to 700 swimmers from 88 countries participating.
Lushano Lamprecht broke four of the eight individual records. He broke his own 50m backstroke 17-18 year age group and Open records of 27,49 with a new time of 27,48, while he broke Gunther Streit’s 11-year-old 50m butterfly 17-18 year age group and Open records of 25,99 seconds with a new time of 25,98.
Alexander Skinner broke the 17-18 year old age group and Open records for the 50m freestyle with a new time of 24,14 seconds, which beat JP Engelbrecht’s former Open record of 24,20 seconds.
Molina Smalley broke the women’s 17-18 year 400m Individual Medley record with a time of 5:16,98, which took nearly five seconds off Jonay Briedenhann’s former record of 5:21,89.
Nicolai Flemming broke the 17-18 year old 100m freestyle record with a time of 53,07 seconds, beating JP Engelbrecht’s former mark of 53,20 seconds.
The Namibian men’s relay team of Nicolai Flemming, Philip Seidler, Lushano Lamprecht and Alexander Skinner smashed the Namibian 17-18 year as well as Open 800m freestyle record of 8:23,00 by nearly 20 seconds with a new time of 8:05,60.
The Namibian team consisted of Kiara Schatz, Molina Smalley, Zune Weber, Nicolai Flemming, Lushano Lamprecht, Phillip Seidler and Zander Skinner.
