Namibians with disabilities face high unemployment, despite affirmative action

Alexia Manombe-Ncube

Namibians with disabilities are struggling to find employment.

Deputy minister of disability affairs Alexia Manombe-Ncube on Wednesday described the high unemployment rate among persons with disabilities as a matter of concern.

“Because it’s like affirmative action is there, but people with disabilities feel that it’s not being fully implemented accordingly,” Manombe-Ncube said.

The Affirmative Action Act states that persons with disabilities are one of three groups that should be given preferential treatment by employers during the recruitment process.
