Namibia’s best brands recognised

BRAND AFRICA has recognised Mobile Telecommunications Namibia (MTC), Mshasho Apparel and Top Score as the three best Namibian brands.

This was the result of a survey of 50 Namibian brands.

During a Zoom event on Friday morning, Brand Africa founder Thebe Ikalafeng, however, said the special survey conducted on Namibia showed that the top three most admired brands in the country are the international names Nike, Adidas and Apple.

“This is a general question we asked but when you look at the top 10, in terms of the most admired Namibian brands [they] are MTC and Mshasho. Spontaneously, Namibians are saying MTC is the best brand in Namibia, and then Mshasho, a music brand that is doing so phenomenal to achieve this,” he said.

He said Top Score is also doing amazing work in terms of brand recognition, placing third as the most admired Namibian brand.

Brand Africa board member Lazarus Jacobs said the idea to gauge the best brands in Namibia had been discussed extensively and this year the decision was made to run the survey.

He said he was not surprised about MTC and Mshasho emerging as the top brands because of all the work and effort the two brands put in to become visible and accessible.

“We are really pleased that we have finally launched the Namibian edition of Africa’s Best Brands to get an insight into the Namibian branding landscape and progress in building strong local brands. It is a good metric of the job ahead for Namibia and Africa overall,” he said.

MTC’s Tim Ekandjo said: “We started this brand 25 years ago, with humble beginnings and we knew we not only wanted to build a mobile telecommunications company, but a brand that all Namibians will be proud of.”
