Namibia’s most senior citizen laid to rest

ANNA VISSER, who died at the age of about 126, was laid to rest at Asab in the South at the weekend.

Ouma Fransman, as she was fondly known, was believed to Namibia’s oldest person. The funeral service was led by the Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Zephania Kameeta, while Deputy Prime Minister, Hendrik Witbooi, delivered an address at the ceremony which lasted for over six hours.Anna Visser was buried with her great grandson who died on December 31.She is survived by a married daughter, an adopted son, eight grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 86 great great grandchildren.Those who knew her described her as mostly self-reliant.Actor and R ‘n B singer, Tyrese Gibson, in Namibia to shoot a film at the coast, donated about N$50 000 to assist with Ouma Fransman’s funeral.”We spent about N$50 000 … on transportation [of the body and family members], food.We bought some cows and goats and some vegetables, the tombstone, and the tent.She was the grandma of the grandmas …,” said Tyrese’s personal assistant, Damian Marzett.The funeral service was led by the Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Zephania Kameeta, while Deputy Prime Minister, Hendrik Witbooi, delivered an address at the ceremony which lasted for over six hours.
