With over two decades of pan-African and global deal-making experience, Nampala will be based in the company’s Johannesburg office and will, according to S&P, play a pivotal role in expanding the agency’s presence across the African continent.
He joins from Rand Merchant Bank where he was head of Africa Financial Institutions and Sovereigns.
Before that, he was board member and country head for Moody’s Investor Services in Johannesburg.
In his new role, Nampala will lead the commercial team in Africa and oversee all commercial activities across the region, working closely with clients and key stakeholders to understand their unique needs, deliver tailored solutions and provide actionable insights to help them make informed investment decisions.
Richard Anthony-Smith, head of EMEA sales at S&P Global Ratings said the entity was delighted to welcome him to the global team.
“His deep understanding of the region’s credit markets, strong network in Africa, combined with his exceptional leadership skills, will be instrumental in further strengthening our presence on the continent. We are confident that under Nampala’s guidance, we will continue to deepen our relationships with local debt issuers, investors, intermediaries and policymakers while supporting the development of open and transparent credit markets in the region,” he said.
In response, Nampala said he was honoured to be part of S&P Global Ratings, a globally trusted and recognised institution.
“Africa is a region brimming with immense potential and unique opportunities. I look forward to leveraging S&P Global Ratings’ high-quality, independent research and analytical capabilities to support our customers in navigating the evolving credit market dynamics in the region,” he said.
Nampala holds an engineering degree from the University of Cape Town and a master of leadership in emerging markets from the University of Johannesburg, among other qualifications.
