NamPower appoints new acting managing director

NamPower today announced that Kahenge Simson Haulofu, divisional manager: generation, has been appointed acting managing director with immediate effect until further notice.

In a press statement the company said, “the appointment of Haulofu is as a result of the suspension of the Managing Director, Paulinus Shilamba and the subsequent resignation of Hanri Jacobs who has to date been serving in the capacity of Acting Managing Director since 23 July 2015.”

The company’s board of directors extended their appreciation to Hanri Jacobs for her unwavering commitment in the execution of duties during her tenure as acting MD.

The company also said that the board would like to assure the nation that NamPower will continue to do everything in its power to ensure security of supply, despite the current challenging power supply situation in Namibia and the region at large.

Shilamba, along with chief technical services officer O’Brien Hekandjo and senior manager for energy trading, Werner Graupe were suspended in July this year in connection with tender irregularities at the power utility.

The trio was implicated in an investigation that coonfirmed NamPower spent N$30 million on a N$2 million contract.
