NamPower hands over bursaries to fourteen students

The Namibia Power Corporation (NamPower) on Wednesday handed over bursaries to 14 individuals in different fields of studies.

NamPower managing director Simson Haulofu, speaking at the bursary award ceremony in Windhoek, said the entity is committed to providing study financing through its bursary scheme.

“We reconfirm our commitment to the annual NamPower bursary scheme for as long as the resources are available,” Haulofu stressed, adding that some past recipients have gone on to be contributing members of society, advancing well in their careers.

“I should add that most of the past beneficiaries of the scheme have now taken up prominent professional and leadership positions within NamPower, and in other sectors of the Namibian economy,” Haulofu indicated.

A former recipient of the NamPower bursary scheme, Titus Halweendo, who himself is now a NamPower employee, advised the 2025 recipients to stay humble and focus on their studies.

“Always be humble, attitude is one thing I picked up that helps us, and obviously you need to perform,” Halweendo said.

One of this year’s recipients, Maria Nashapi, who is going to pursue a master’s degree of philosophy in sustainable development at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, said she is grateful to NamPower for the opportunity as it has relieved some of the financial pressure relating to her studies.

“I’m really grateful towards NamPower. Getting this bursary means that I will not have to worry about any other thing but to rather focus on my studies,” Nashapi said.

Nashapi also revealed her future aspirations in her field of work and how she hopes to bring about some change.

“I hope to create a meaningful impact in the future regarding climate change that has been affecting our country and the globe, so with this qualification, I hope to become a change maker,” she said.

The scheme has been providing financial assistance to students for over 25 years, investing millions into the initiative.

Out of a total of 1 014 applicants, fourteen individuals were awarded with bursaries in different fields of studies inclusive of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, data science, renewable energy, business administration, transport management and logistics, law and accounting.
