NamWater, MTC partner on digital payment, smart water metering in digital drive

Namwater and MTC have signed an agreement on using digital solutions to improve water services in Namibia.

The agreement will see the Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) and the Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) leading the water sector’s digital transformation.

This was confirmed in a press statement released on Monday.

The agreement is aimed at enhancing systems and improving NamWater’s efficiency in serving its customers.

“The two entities will collaborate to transform the water sector through activities such as the rolling out of digital payment channels, smart water metering infrastructure, data analytics and management, smart internet connectivity, and cloud computing for efficient and cost-effective water management, among others,” the statement reads.

According to the statement, the entities will do research to create more digital solutions for the water sector.

NamWater chief executive Abraham Nehemia says the partnership marks a transformative step in addressing the critical challenges facing Namibia’s water sector.

“Together, we are setting a precedent for how collaboration between technology and water utilities can deliver meaningful change,” he says.

MTC chief technical and information officer Monica Nehemia says it is encouraging to see Namibian institutions embarking on a digital transformation journey in pursuit of business excellence.

“MTC’s strategic drive has been to always create meaningful collaboration with key Namibian public and private institutions and assist them in integrating digitalisation in their operations,” she says.
