Nandi-Ndaitwah asks Swapo funders to be generous

Swapo vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has asked the ruling party’s funders to have open hands and wallets during a fundraising gala dinner on Friday.

The dinner at a Windhoek hotel kicked off the party’s electoral college weekend, during which delegates will choose Swapo’s candidates for the National Assembly election in November.

Funds raised will go towards Swapo’s election campaign in the 2024 presidential and National Assembly elections.
“Comrades, let’s be generous and pledge,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.

The party leadership at the fundraising dinner was led by Nandi-Ndaitwah, her husband, retired general Denga Ndaitwah, Swapo secretary general Sophia Shaningwa, her deputy, Uahekua Herunga, the country’s prime minister, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, her husband, Onesmus Amadhila, National Assembly speaker Peter Katjavivi and former first lady Monica Geingos.

The party recently stated in a High Court case that it has no money to organise an extraordinary congress, which some party members want to be held to elect a new party president, following the death of president Hage Geingob on 4 February.

The dinner was attended by business people and politicians, including Millennium Group of Companies head Miguel Hamutenya, Nam-Mic Financial Services Holdings’ former head Walter Don, Letshego Namibia head Ester Kali, Namibia Airports Company chief executive Bisey Uirab, Environmental Investment Fund head Benedict Libanda and former deputy minister Piet van der Walt.
