Nandi-Ndaitwah criticises misplaced priorities for Namibia’s hunger crisis, pledges change

Vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the country’s poverty and inequality challenges have everything to do with misplaced priorities.

Speaking at a youth interface on Wednesday, Nandi-Ndaitwah said she will do better if she is elected as the country’s new president.

“The issue in our country is not money, the issue is how we are willing to do it better. If everyone is given a responsibility,” she said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah pledged to help address the country’s challenges given the opportunity to take over as president in the forthcoming presidential election.

“The theme of our campaign is a statement that I would like all of us to live according to. The issue in our country is not money, it is how we are providing services to our people,” she said.

She questioned how a country with abundant resources and a small population continues to suffer.

“Looking at our resources, we are just too few to be poor, but that cannot be done by one person, we must do it for all of us. Namibians, black and white, we know our history. What is important is that we are Namibians.

“It is a shame that we have young people to rescue with jobs but we are transporting these jobs to other continents when we send our raw materials unprocessed.

Hence, this theme is addressing unity in diversity, you cannot do anything. You are not united,” she said.

She said Namibia is made up of many different tribes, and culture should not divide the country.

“They should be a source of inspiration.

When we talk about youth empowerment, we are looking at it holistically, not just to be empowered to be employed.”
