Vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has criticised minister of sport, youth and national service Agnes Tjongarero for failing to start renovating Independence Stadium.
Nandi-Ndaitwah says Tjongarero undertook in writing that renovations would commence on 28 August with the appointment of a contractor, but she allegedly failed to honour this promise.
Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed her disappointed during the official handover of Onawa Police Station and Build Together houses at Onawa informal settlement at Oshakati on Friday.
“I am disappointed by the minister . . . Currently we have our sport people who go to play outside, because we do not have a stadium in the country.
“They told me they will commence with renovations on 28 August and when I asked about the progress, there was nothing.
“I was always asking for updates and I was told we are doing well, when in actual fact nothing is happening,” she said.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said leaders should not continue to lie to the nation as it creates a lack of trust.
“I will not allow them to continue lying. I will not let it go, I will be on them and if need be, someone has to be held accountable,” she said.
