WITH reference to an article that appeared in your daily paper of July 17 2007, under the heading ‘Swapo weighs Nujoma’s role’, the article has given the public an impression that at a media briefing I held on July 16 2007, I said that the Swapo Party Constitution will be changed to create the position of the National Chairman to be filled by the President of Swapo Party Cde Sam Nujoma.
For your information attached please find the statement I made on July 16 2007. Even during that time those that attended the media briefing of July 2007 16 can testify that at no time I mentioned that any amendment has been proposed, as party members are still to submit their proposals.Your paper has also referred to an extraordinary congress, during the media briefing, I have not talked about an extraordinary congress as the congress set for November 27-30 2007 is the ordinary congress of the party, following the third congress held in 2002.I would therefore appreciate it, if you could clear the confusion created in the article mentioned above.Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Secretary for Information and Mobilisation * Note: The article does not state that you announced that the Swapo Party Constituion will be changed to accommodate the position of National Chairman. The journalist quoted well-placed Swapo sources – referred to in the article as “insiders” – on the issue, as reflected in the report. The same applies in the case of the congress.EditorEven during that time those that attended the media briefing of July 2007 16 can testify that at no time I mentioned that any amendment has been proposed, as party members are still to submit their proposals.Your paper has also referred to an extraordinary congress, during the media briefing, I have not talked about an extraordinary congress as the congress set for November 27-30 2007 is the ordinary congress of the party, following the third congress held in 2002.I would therefore appreciate it, if you could clear the confusion created in the article mentioned above.Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Secretary for Information and Mobilisation * Note: The article does not state that you announced that the Swapo Party Constituion will be changed to accommodate the position of National Chairman. The journalist quoted well-placed Swapo sources – referred to in the article as “insiders” – on the issue, as reflected in the report. The same applies in the case of the congress.Editor
