National Youth Council (NYC) executive chairperson Sharonice Busch on Sunday condemned the act of misconduct displayed by NYC director Calista Schwartz-Gowases, who allegedly attempted to assault a representative of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM).
The alleged incident occurred on Sunday during a council meeting at Ondangwa.
According to Busch, the meeting was halted due to the alleged attempted assault.
“We are going to address the misconduct displayed by the director before and during this representative council (RC) meeting. We condemn, in the strongest terms, the actions of the director towards the PDM Youth League delegate and will address the incident that led to the suspension of the meeting,” she said.
Busch added that the board would convene an extraordinary RC meeting once these issues are resolved to meet the statutory requirements outlined in the act, by way of accounting to the RC.
Speaking during the council meeting, Busch expressed her desire to build the NYC to be free of corruption and maladministration, and to ensure that it continues to serve young people.
“As an institution, we have made significant strides in building stronger processes and systems, which ultimately enhance transparency and accountability. Many of you, in your different capacities and at different times and spaces, have contributed to these successes.
“After all, what is the NYC without its committed young leaders? Therefore, as we head into this ninth RC meeting, I encourage us to maintain this insatiable desire to build the NYC, to build it free of corruption and maladministration, and to ensure that it continues to serve the young people of this country.”
