Nature Foundation donates equipment

THE Namibia Nature Foundation, through the Namibia Environment Fund supported by Danish Development Assistance, has donated equipment for monitoring natural resources to the Kyaramacan Trust.

The Kyaramacan Trust is located in the Caprivi Game Park, also known as West Caprivi, predominantly inhabited by the San community. Residents have been actively involved in community-based natural resource management for the past seven years.The Kyaramacan Trust aims to link conservation with socio-economic development for residents.The Caprivi Strip forms a migratory route of wild animals from southern Angola to Botswana and offers a competitive wildlife and tourism advantage, which is critical in terms of conservation initiatives that have the potential to generate income for residents.The wise utilisation of natural resources is crucial for sustainable upliftment of the living standards of the San community in this area.The project promotes sustainable development and equips local people with the skills needed to make effective decisions that preserve their natural resources.The potential benefits to wildlife management in the area are far-reaching and will influence future decisions at regional and national level.The handover of the donation took place at the Divundu community campsite.The equipment consists of 15 pairs of binoculars, 25 bicycles, 25 camping bags, 25 water bottles and furniture for three offices.The total value of the donation is around N$71 000.Residents have been actively involved in community-based natural resource management for the past seven years.The Kyaramacan Trust aims to link conservation with socio-economic development for residents.The Caprivi Strip forms a migratory route of wild animals from southern Angola to Botswana and offers a competitive wildlife and tourism advantage, which is critical in terms of conservation initiatives that have the potential to generate income for residents.The wise utilisation of natural resources is crucial for sustainable upliftment of the living standards of the San community in this area.
