NBC explains Swapo song slip-up

THE Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has explained how a Swapo song slipped through the system during a gathering at the Electoral Commission of Namibia on Friday.

The incident left those in attendance amused before someone quickly pressed pause on the song.

Although NBC spokesperson Umbi Karuaihe-Upi could not be reached for official comment, a group of NBC employees who were present later explained that the ruling party’s song was not played directly from the company’s equipment.

The employees, who could not provide their names, said the song slipped through as they were setting up for a live broadcast at the Sam Nujoma stadium where Swapo supporters gathered to celebrate the party’s election victory.

According to the employees who approached The Namibian in numbers to defend the corporation, the crew at the stadium was testing the sound equipment that was somehow connected to the main station at the ECN.

When the Swapo song played, a person responsible for the control unit allegedly left it on amplifier by mistake.
