NAMIBIAN Broadcasting Corporation workers demanded, during a demonstration today, for management not to lay off workers.
The demonstration comes two weeks after the NBC board chairperson announced plans to lay off 156 workers to cut costs.
The workers have since taken it to the streets, demanding for the management to reverse all austerity measures that included retrenching some of the employees.
Kehphas Hembapu read out the demands while handing over the petition this afternoon to the acting director general Vezenga Kauraisa.
Other cost-cutting measures the NBC board chairperson, Sven Thieme, had announced include laying off 156 people to remain with 413, cutting television broadcast time from 24 hours to 07h00-21h00 and cancelling all indigenous news bulletin.
