NCS swapped for Blue Boys in topflight

Blue Boys will take the place of Southern Stream First Division winners Namibia Correctional Service (NCS) in the topflight next season.

This was announced by the Namibia Football Association (NFA) yesterday.

The Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) cannot accommodate the NCS and Khomas Nampol concurrently as they share the same owner, the NFA said.

The NCS is “ineligible for promotion due to conflicting ownership interests with Khomas Nampol, which is already a member of the NPFL.”

The club is still recognised as the winner of the southern stream and will get to keep its prize money.

After gaining promotion from the North West First Division (NWFD) in 2018, the Military School Okahandja had to sell its status to compete in the premier division, given the presence of fellow Namibia Defence Force-owned Mighty Gunners in the premiership.

They rebranded to Okahandja United and remain part of the NPFL.

KK Palace, who won the NWFD, and North East First Division champions Cuca Tops complete the list of clubs promoted to the top league.

Furthermore, the NFA said not all its leagues have completed the 2023/24 season, which means they cannot announce the promotions and relegations from the second and third divisions.

“Regional second division champions will participate in zonal promotion play-offs to determine which clubs will advance to the nationwide first division and which will remain in their respective second divisions,” the NFA stated.

“The NFA will announce the dates and venues for the zonal promotion play-offs in due course, along with the specific rules governing the competition.”
