Boxing trainer and promoter Immanuel ‘AC’ Moses anticipates a smooth transition from the amateur to professional setup for 2024 African champion Tryagain Ndevelo
The 25 year-old featherweight, alias ‘The Issue’, is expected to make his pro début in Windhoek on 29 March.
He will feature on the undercard of Flame ‘Special one’ Nangolo’s WBO Africa super featherweight title defence at Roman Catholic Hall, organised by AC Promotions.
Ndevelo, who made waves at youth level, has not enjoyed the expected success as an elite senior fighter despite wide exposure.
Nonetheless, the orthodox fighter, who on occasion adopts a southpaw stance, has put together a relatively impressive résumé since announcing himself as an amateur with a silver medal at the Region Five Youth Games.
Moses certainly believes Ndevelo is destined for greatness. He said so when announcing the addition of “a rising star to the team” yesterday.
When claiming gold at the African Championships in the Democratic Republic of Congo last year, Ndevelo was in top shape throughout the tournament, culminating in a tactical victory over Zambia’s African Games silver medallist Mwengo Mwale.
This marked Ndevelo’s debut at the competition as he avenged a loss to Mwale at the 2022 Zone Four Championships in Maputo, Mozambique.
Ndevelo’s gold, along with a silver from light-heavyweight Gebhard Ipinge and a bronze by flyweight Tomas Elfas, helped Namibia finish seventh overall.
His next most impressive showing at elite amateur level is arguably winning three gold medals in a row from 2021 to 2023 at the Five Nations tournament hosted annually in Botswana.
The Five Nations involves fighters from Botswana, Angola, Namibia, Lesotho, South Africa and Eswatini.
“Tryagain Ndevelo has an impressive track record as an amateur, having earned multiple accolades over the years,” Moses said of his recruit’s prowess.
“With such a decorated amateur career, Tryagain Ndevelo is poised to make a significant impact in the professional boxing world. AC Promotons is proud to have him join the team and looks forward to his journey ahead.”
Ndevelo started boxing at the age of 11 back in 2010 at Eenhana Boxing and Fitness Academy, under the tutelage of coach Gerson Petrus who guided him to his international debut in 2016.
He later teamed up with Jonas Jonas, who convinced one of Namibia’s most prominent amateur boxing coaches, Albertus Tsamaseb, to let Ndevelo join them at his boxing academy at Swakopmund.
