NDF members arrested with illicit goods

Three members of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) found themselves on the wrong side of the law when they were arrested with illicit goods on Sunday at the Oshivelo checkpoint.

Police regional commander commissioner Theopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku reported that two trucks were intercepted at Oshivelo through an intelligence operation led by the Namibian Police.

A search was conducted, during which 6 x 60kgs of illicit items were discovered. This led to the arrest of a 45-year-old found with 279 packets of Best whiskies and boxes of Yes cigarettes valued at N$20 000; a 54-year-old found with 41 packs of whiskies valued at N$4 100, and a 36-year-old suspect found with 862 packs of whiskies and five packs of cigarettes valued N$87 200.

The suspects appeared in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where they were fined N$4 000 each,” said Kalompo-Nashikaku.
