NDF teams dominate Bank Windhoek Corporate Relay

Six hundred and twelve individuals, making up 153 teams of four, ran and walked for welfare in the third annual Bank Windhoek Corporate Challenge Relay in aid of welfare, which took place on Saturday, 25 July, at the Trustco United Sport Club in Olympia, Windhoek.

There were 23 teams more than last year. The relay is a Bank Windhoek event, with G4S providing security, and it aims to raise funds for welfare organisations and to encourage teamwork and a healthy lifestyle amongst staff members and other participants.

The relay consisted of a 20km route around the Trustco United Sport Club field, with team members running or walking 5km each.

The NDF Athletic Club was the big winner, with their three teams winning gold in the men’s, mixed and female running categories. NDF 1 team was the overall winner of the relay, finishing in a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes and 53 seconds, breaking last year’s record by Namibia Construction of 1 hour, 27 minutes and 34 seconds. They also won the men’s running category.

The second overall winner was NDF 3, which crossed the finishing line in 1:17:13, also beating last year’s record. They also won the mixed running category. NDF 2, who finished in fourth place overall, also broke last year’s record in a time of 1:20:25 and finished first in the Women’s running category.

Rene Kids Juniors finished in third place overall, and first in the schools running category. They finished in a time of 1:19:25, also breaking last year’s record.

The teams of Namibia Construction dominated the bottom half of the top 10, coming in 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th positions overall.

In the veteran’s running category, a team called ‘Hou Bene Hou’, finished in first place, but 24th overall.

In the walking categories, the overall winner was CIC 3 of CIC Pty Ltd, who walked in a time of 1:55:29, followed by Bank Windhoek’s Rehoboth Branch and MTC’s The Mannettis.
