Ndokosho determined to revive his career

Gottlieb Ndokosho will aim to revive his boxing career when he takes on f Francis Miyeyusho of Tanzania for the IBF Africa Persian Gulf featherweight title at Outapi on 28 November.

Ndokosho’s rise in the featherweight ranks came to a sudden halt when he lost the IBF Inter-Continental featherweight title in a unanimous points decision against South Africa’s Oscar Chauke in his last fight in February this year.

Before then, the hard-hitting Ndokosho had gone on an unbeaten streak of seven fights, during which he won the IBF Continental Africa featherweight title as well as the IBF International featherweight title.

In total his professional record now stands at 16 wins and four defeats and, at the age of 36, a victory against Miyeyusho will be crucial if he hopes to revive his career and challenge for an international title again.

Smokey Joe Hilongwa of Salute Boxing Academy, which will promote the fight, said that Ndokosho was training hard and determined to reach the top again.

“Gottlieb has been training three times a day for this fight in his home town of Swakopmund. He has been working very hard and promised his Namibian fans that he will win the title,” he said.

He will, however, find a tough opponent in Miyeyusho who is an experienced campaigner with a professional record of 41 wins, 13 losses and two draws.

The 35-year-old Tanzanian however has a patchy record of late, having lost two of his last five fights.

The fight will be the main event of a boxing bonanza at the Omankete Lodge in Outapi which will feature seven other fights on the undercard.

In the main supporting bout, Lukas Ndafoluma will take on Felix Mwamaso of Malawi in a middleweight fight over eight rounds.

It will be a rematch after Ndafoluma won their previous fight in Ondangwa in August on a unanimous points decision, with the Malawian feeling hard done by, according to Hilongwa.

“Mwamaso was not happy with that result, he thought he should have at least drawn that fight, so he asked for a rematch and Ndafoluma agreed to it,” he said.

The other fights on the undercard are as follows:

Alfeus Shilongo will take on Limbani Masamba of Malawi in a junior middleweight fight over eight rounds.

Jonas Matheus will take on Johannes Nicodemus in a junior featherweight fight over six rounds.

David Shinuna will take on Amos Enkala in a junior lightweight fight over six rounds.

Werner Tobias will make his pro debut against Simeon Kalola in a welterweight fight over four rounds.

John Mukwendje will make his pro debut against Samuel Nangolo in a flyweight fight over four rounds.

Josua Ndemunonga will also make his pro debut against Immanuel Joseph in a flyweight fight over four rounds.

Tickets for the boxing bonanza are N$300 for VIP tickets, N$100 for general tickets, N$30 for youths under 15 and N$10 000 for a VVIP table of ten.

Tickets are available at Omangete Lodge, at Puma Oluzizi Service Station and at Muaa Station Hotel in Outapi.
