Nedbank Citi Dash – Almost time to run this city 

This year’s Nedbank Citi Dash takes place on Sunday, 8 September just as spring arrives in the capital and it promises to be great day out.

Perhaps you’re just looking for something fun to do with friends, or an opportunity to test your fitness levels at this time of the year or you could be looking to boost organisational or team morale with a little friendly competition. Either way the Nedbank Citi Dash to be held at Zoo Park on Sunday 8 September is the place to be.

Loads of prizes, accolades and just good old-fashioned bragging rights are on offer for those who will be running through the main streets of Windhoek on the day. Oh, and running is a relative term as even for those not competitively or running inclined are welcome to join for a nice day out walking through the CBD on a spring day undeterred in an enclosed and safe environment. 

This is because everyone is welcome at the Nedbank Citi Dash which as an event aims to bring together the community in a celebration of health and athleticism. This aim is clearly supported by prominent businesses as role players in the community such as Multichoice, Coca-Cola, Checkers and NHP who have pledged their support in real terms through tangible contributions towards the event. Irrespective of the category entered, the first 2 000 entrants all receive a t-shirt and automatically qualify for the lucky draw where prizes to the value of N$20 000 can be won.

Entries are rushing in and will close a week before the event on Saturday, 31 August. On this day race numbers can be collected at Cycletec Adventure Centre which on the same day is hosting a fun run in anticipation of the event and in celebration of the arrival of spring. After the fun run a Specialized Stumpjumper will be given away to anyone who buys a pair of socks or a visor.

Returning to the event, there are monetary prizes for various category winners, being the male and female elite athletes, the top under-18 male and female athletes, and the top visually impaired and wheelchair athletes to the total of N$100 000 courtesy of Nedbank, which has made?? who have made a more than generous contribution to the event. 

Beyond being a social community celebration of health, activity and athleticism at the start of spring in the heart of Windhoek, the event also serves as a stepping stone for someone to perhaps one day make their mark on the international sporting stage. Therefore, participation in the elite category is encouraged among those wishing to be noticed for their talent and aspiring to greater things as opportunities emanate from events such as this initiated Nedbank.

Competitive fun is also catered for in the Who Runs The City? competition where schools and sports clubs can enter as a group and compete for cash prizes against their rivals. Local business can also compete against each other for the ultimate prize of one year of bragging rights to claim “we run this city”.

The Ineos Grenadier provided by M+Z and beacon of Ineos’ support for running which is promoted by their “The Daily Mile Foundation” internationally provides the vehicle ground support. The impressive Grenadier will be leading participants out through the quiet and purposely closed streets in the heart of the Windhoek CBD to really give participants the feeling that they Run this City.
