Netball Namibia announces squad for Zambia

WINDHOEK – Netball Namibia has released the names of players who will compete in the upcoming African Women Netball Championship qualifying tournament, which is also the World Cup qualifier.

The six-day championship will be hosted by the Netball Association of Zambia in Lusaka from 13 to 18 August 2018, with eight countries – host Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi and Zimbabwe – battling it out for ranking points as well as a place at the World Cup.

Namibia’s senior national netball team made its return to the International Netball Federation (INF) world rankings after competing in the Africa Senior National Netball Championship in Kampala, Uganda in June 2017.

They are now ranked 28th out of the 35 countries by the INF.

Netball Namibia on Friday announced a squad of 11 players and two coaches who will represent the country. They are Glynetthe Kazonganga, Cherlyn Muesee, Melissa Neis, Imbileni Frans and Diana Tjejamba (defenders); midfielders Uehengisa Tjozongoro and Selma Bittler and shooters Anna Kaspar, Catheline Tjihero, Vendjihonga Katjaimo and Zauana Jaumbauije.

The coaches are Manuelle Tjivera (head coach) and Antoinette Wentworth (assistant coach).

Players who are training with the team, but who will not be travelling with the team are Pupe Kandovazu, Uzuvira Uatjiua and Louise Kaheseua.

Frans and Tjihero will be making their senior debuts in Zambia. – Nampa
