New publications on Sperrgebiet

BENEDICT Libanda and Morgan Hauptfleisch have written books providing guidance to the people responsible for managing the Sperrgebiet as a biodiversity hotspot.

Libanda is the Small Grants Manager at the Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF) while Hauptfleisch is a consultant. Together with two DVDs – one on the Orange River and the other on the southern town of Aus – these books will help raise awareness about the unique and biologically important Sperrgebiet and Succulent Karoo Ecosystem, said Environment and Tourism Minister Willem Konjore, who launched the books and the DVDs on Friday. These materials were produced under the Succulent Karoo Ecosystem Programme (Skep), a conservation programme between Namibia and South Africa. The Succulent Karoo is the name of the type of vegetation in the western part of South Africa and southern Namibia.Libanda’s book, ‘Best Practices on Community Visioning’, is a guide for organisations engaged in sustainable natural resource management.Hauptfleisch’s book, ‘Monitoring the Sperrgebiet and Adjacent Areas’, is a guide to monitoring key indicators for the Succulent Karoo Ecosystem, with special focus on the Sperrgebiet National Park. The two publications are available free of charge at the NNF’s offices in Frans Indongo Street, Windhoek. The DVDs, produced by Bigger Picture Productions, are for sale there.Together with two DVDs – one on the Orange River and the other on the southern town of Aus – these books will help raise awareness about the unique and biologically important Sperrgebiet and Succulent Karoo Ecosystem, said Environment and Tourism Minister Willem Konjore, who launched the books and the DVDs on Friday. The DVDs, produced by Bigger Picture Productions, are for sale there.
