Music videos are one of those things that truly make us enjoy a song because people love looking at visuals and copying famous dance moves.
With enough exposure on television, various tracks are able to reach international status through music channels such as Channel O, Trace or MTV Base.
Namibia has had its fair share of music videos this year, ranging from the likes of Tate Buti to PDK. Everyone is changing up their style these days and fans are loving it. Gone are the days of low quality videos and sorry story lines – thanks to great producers and directors.
Take a look at some of the visually impressive music videos making the rounds on the internet at the moment.
Moving away from the shebeen scene, Tate Buti’s ‘Inotila’ video is shot on the ocean where he cruises with his crew on a cool catamaran. Giving an island vibe and dressed in white, this music video is nothing short of a good time, especially when he’s serenading his lady love. Not many Namibian music videos show this side of the country, so it’s a fresh take to our booming industry. With already 70 000 views, Namibian music lovers are already enjoying the music video and this is clear thanks to the diverse number of YouTube comments.
Due to popular demand, we bet, Namibia’s favourite kwaito group PDK released the video for their hit track ‘Ochikutu’ last month and it’s hard not to get up and dance when sexy moves are being thrown all over the video. With Windhoek as its backdrop, the video shows Patrick, Deon and Kamtonyo having loads of fun and yep, they still have it. Using aerial views, the emphasis is placed on their female protagonists who are not afraid to shake it like salt shakers in their sexy dresses and heels – which is what they song is about, despite the lack of a storyline.
LMPC has been making waves in the industry as of late and just recently, he released the video for ‘The Saka’. Shot in the capital city, LMPC stamps his status as one of the cool kids – leaning on a gold Rolls Royce, dressed to the T, and ready to party with the boys. Aligned with the beat, special effects are heavy in this video (like really heavy) and at some point, a ‘Weak or No Signal’ sign introduces the next scene. Don’t worry, nothing is wrong with your screen.
Girls get rather… playful in this vid, and LMPC’s crew join in on the fun around him as he raps in front of a creative background. X marks the spot. Opting to leave out a storyline, it is what it is. After all, he sings “jy willie, jy los”.
It’s lit! Nam TV Namibia introduced the new Damara Nama cypher featuring John Gregorius, ALP, DJ Dozza and Dixa. Rapping exclusively in their mother tongues, these rappers gather at an abandoned playground, and show off their skills needing no help. Clearly having a good time, it’s hard for listeners not to bop their heads. Despite a slightly shaky transition, the video is up, down and all over the place, and it works with the song. The three minutes may pass by too quickly, so you’re definitely guaranteed to click replay.
