Nicky Iyambo meets genocide council group

THE Ovaherero Council for Dialogue (OCD-1904) met vice president Nicky Iyambo on Friday to discuss possibilities of having another group of chiefs to join the special envoy in the genocide reparations negotiations.

The meeting was held in Windhoek at the old State House.

Others in attendance were justice minister Albert Kawana, trade minister Immanuel Ngatjizeko, permanent secretary of international relations Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Jeffrey Kavendjii, chief Tjinaani Maharero, chief Zeraera Mannasse, chief Hikumuine Kapika and other delegates.

Although spokesperson for the OCD-04 Ueriuka Tjikuuua refused to give more information on what the meeting was about and the resolutions made, is well informed that the group had first requested for a meeting with government during former President Hifikepunye Pohamba’s term but were only accorded the opportunity for a meeting this year.

Iyambo was unavailable for comment and Ngatjizeko declined to comment, while information minister Tjekero Tweya could not comment on the issue as he was on leave at the time it took place.

This group does not form part of Vekuii Rukoro’s faction of the Ovaherero/Ovambanderu Genocide Forum (OGF) that recently threatened action if they are not allowed to take charge of the genocide reparations negotiations.
