The Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) has announced that projects worth N$32.2 billion are in the final investment decision stage.

In a presentation last week, NIPDB chief executive Nangula Uaandja said projects in four regions will create 14 950 jobs.

In the Erongo region, an investment of N$12.9 billion in eight projects is set to create 10 600 jobs, while the Oshikoto region has the highest investment of N$13.6 billion in one project that will create 50 jobs.

“Otjozondjupa has four projects worth N$954 million that will create 900 jobs and //Kharas has five projects with N$4.4 billion that will create 3 100 jobs,” said Uaandja.

The Khomas region has three projects worth N$398 million, which will create 300 jobs.

Uaandja added that the total investment potential in the pipeline as of 31 March is N$174.9 billion.

This includes capital deployed of N$24.7 billion, marking 9% growth from N$161 billion last year.

“In the capital deployed category, money is being spent to establish the investment.

Land and some assets are acquired, the project has moved to groundbreaking and the process to create temporary jobs for construction etc., has commenced. “Furthermore, some permanent jobs to manage the investment are created,” said Uaandja.

According to Uaandja, N$117.9 billion of those investments are in the lead stage.

“The lead category includes viable investments that require more information on whether Namibia is the ideal location, has the required infrastructure, has market access etc., to support the investment.

The investor is still deciding and requires assistance, and the NIPDB’s support,” said Uaandja.

NIPDB spokesperson Catherine Shipushu said projects in the final investment decision stage are those in which the investor has decided to invest in Namibia.

“The NIPDB is actively facilitating the investments and supporting the investor towards realisation.

The investor might still need to seek funding and relevant permits to implement the project,” said Shipushu.
