The Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation on Friday dismissed as malicious and unsubstantiated rumours circulating on social media regarding an alleged rift between president Hage Geingob and deputy prime minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
According to the ministry’s executive director, Penda Naanda, the claims are based on Nandi-Ndaitwah’s absence from foreign diplomats’ presentation of credentials to president Geingob at State House on Wednesday.
“These allegations are devoid of any truth,” Naanda said in a statement, adding that working relations between Geingob and his top diplomat “continue to be excellent”.
Although it is Nandi-Ndaitwah’s privilege as minister of international relations and cooperation to accompany foreign ambassadors and high commissioners to such an event, Naanda said she recommended that Christine //Hoebes, the minister in the presidency, stand in for her.
He said Nandi-Ndaitwah “is on a wellness retreat for the whole of April, that was planned since last year, as all of us deserve a rest”.
