No upsets as Premier League teams progress

BLACK Africa, Blue Waters and Eleven Arrows edged their opponents while African Stars, Civics and Tura Magic scored more than five goals in the Debmarine Namibia Cup last 16 Round played on Saturday at Windhoek and Walvis Bay.

In the final match at Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay, Arrows led Pirates 1-0 through a goal by Joseph Ngifindwako on 17 minutes.

Pirates’ task was made more difficult when Amos Iyambo received a red card on 83 minutes, but Pirates equalised dramatically through Marceloo Haraseb in the last minute of the game to send the match into penalties.

The shootout that had the whole stadium up on their feet saw the sides level at 2-2 after the mandatory five penalties with Stanley Kameisepo and Riaan Hanamub missing the first two for Pirates.

In the sudden death, Donovan Swartz scored for Pirates while Simon Nehongo scored for Arrows, but Innocent Tembo’s shot was saved and Immanuel Angolo scored the winner to make it 4-3 for Arrows.

Former Pirates captain Valton van Staden who now plays for Arrows won the man of the match award.

Black Africa also needed the shoot-out to see off a resurgent second division side Khuse FC from the Oshana region, eventually winning 2-0 on penalties, after a one-all draw at full time.

Black Africa took the lead on three minutes through Quinton Kuruseb but Khuse came back in the second half like a team possessed and duly got their equaliser on 70 minutes through Pieter Hailombe.

In the shootout, BA’s Jerome Louis shot was saved, but Khuse failed to score from their opening four penalties, while BA’s Wendell Rudath and Vitapi Ngaruka scored to see the Lovely Lions through.

Khuse captain Onesmus Ashipala won the man of the match award that comes with N$2 000.

In the match between Blue Waters and Young Chiefs, Gregory Aukumeb put Blue Waters ahead with a penalty in the first half, but Lukas Johannes equalised for Young Chiefs midway through the second half.

Man of the Match Theophilus Junias scored four goals in Tura Magic’s 9-1 rout of Swakopmund FC with substitute Oswaldo Xamseb netting three, and Raphael Adade and Papi Kavezembi one each. Nathan Beukes scored the consolation goal for SFC.

At the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek, man of the match Godwin Jena scored four goals and Treasure Kauapirura and Ambrosius Amseb a goal each to lead African Stars to a commanding 6-0 win over Otjozondjupa Second Division qualifiers Dynamos.

Civics midfielder Donald Geiseb was named man of the match after he scored six goals in his side’s 10-1 demolition of Kavango East qualifiers Once Again FC.

Civics’ other goals came via a brace by Erich Ochurub and one each by Ngunzu Salazar and Matheus Halup, while Joseph Hausiku scored the only goal for Once Again.

Golden Bees also qualified for the quarterfinals with a 4-3 win on penalties against Khomas Nampol after a goalless draw. Bees’ goalkeeper Herman Hoakaob won the man of the match award.

Unam beat Chiefs Santos 4-0 to complete the Debmarine Namibia Cup quarterfinalists. Marcel Papama got the man of the match award, while goals from Edmund Kambanda, Tara Katupose, Devin Somseb and Lebbius Mwatilefa gave Unam a comfortable victory.
