THE Chief Control Officer for the North West Health Region Directorate, Maria Uushona, has died after a car in which she was a passenger left the road and overturned on Monday afternoon.
Uushona’s death was confirmed yesterday by the Superintendent of Oshakati State Hospital, Dr Korbinian Vizcaya Amutenya. According to Dr Amutenya, the accident occurred on the main road, 40 kilometres from Otavi, on the Otjiwarongo road.Uushona was on her way to a financial management meeting in Windhoek to which all chief control officers in the country had been invited.Also in the car with Uushona were senior officials from the Oshakati State Hospital: the Matron, Sister Leslie Nunes; Sister Hilma Kashupi; and the directorate’s Chief Accountant, Hilya Mulle.Dr Amutenya said that Sr Nunes was taken to the Otjiwarongo Hospital with a broken arm and serious head injuries.She was later transferred to the Roman Catholic Hospital in Windhoek.Both Sr Kashupi and Mulle were said to have been slightly injured and later discharged from the Otjiwarongo hospital.A source told The Namibian that, the accident occurred 40 kilometres outside Otavi.Uushona, who lived at Ongwediva, is survived by her mother and four children.According to Dr Amutenya, the accident occurred on the main road, 40 kilometres from Otavi, on the Otjiwarongo road.
