NSA recruits for main household income survey

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) has started recruiting staff to conduct the main household income and expenditure survey after concluding its pilot project.

The pilot Namibia Household Income and Expenditure Survey (NHIES) ran from 30 September to 20 October.

According to a media release issued by NSA chief executive Alex Shimuafeni on Monday, the pilot survey was done to test the nation’s readiness for the main household income survey, set to start in March 2025.

He said the results of the pilot survey will not be published but will be used by the agency to ensure the main NHIES runs smoothly and collects high-quality data on household income, expenditure and living conditions in Namibia.

“The NSA hereby informs the nation that until the main NHIES survey commences in March 2025, there will no longer be field staff visiting households for incomes survey data collection,” said Shimuafeni.

Shimuafeni said NSA has started to recruit staff for the main survey.

“We would like to encourage the public to apply for the 155 vacancies – 51 team supervisors, 102 interviewers and two national IT field technicians – for the main 2025/2026 NHIES survey. Application will close on 25 October.

“Information on the vacancies is available on the NSA website,” he said.
