Fresh FM has released a press statement confirming that award-nominated presenter Denzel Leroy // Naobeb, also known as NSK, has been suspended following his remarks at the Simply You Magazine Lifestyle and Fashion Awards. This follows him jumping on stage, causing consternation at the event on Saturday, claiming he was robbed of an award.
Screenshots allegedly sent by NSK to fellow nominees surfaced stating, “If I don’t win, I will pull a Kanye West stunt to Taylor Swift this,” and, “I’m hell-bent on causing trouble. I even have the exact same outfit ready. All I want to know is… are you with me?”
In a Facebook post, Salimi Gerhard, who won Female Presenter of the Year, said: “Last night when I received my award, I went outside to make a phone call and was almost assaulted by Naobeb. He pointed a bottle of Hennessy at me and said, ‘Even you, you just entered the industry, and you know Shaiquan [another nominee] is better than you,’” she wrote.
Regarding the screenshots, Simply You Magazine spokesperson Helena Shigwedha stated, “ We do not condone any actions that go against the core and pillars of the awards and the purpose of establishing this important platform.”
Fresh FM made a statement detailing their commitment to professionalism and respect within the media community. The radio station said that NSK had been suspended from his morning show for the week, asserting, “This behaviour does not align with the values we uphold at Fresh FM.”
NSK is expected to return to the airwaves on Monday morning to address the situation directly with listeners.
NSK had not answered calls or messages regarding the screenshots before publication.
