Nust secures land for new Lüderitz campus

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) has secured land at Lüderitz to build a new campus.

Nust currently has a campus at the Lüderitz Waterfront, referred to as a technovation park.

Nust vice chancellor Erold Naomab says the Lüderitz Waterfront’s building is historic.

“Universities naturally do not coexist without appropriate amenities, in many countries it is called a science and technology park,” he says.

He highlights that there is a need to establish infrastructure to support students in terms of sport facilities, hostels, and student amenities, and Nust has identified a suitable site for future expansion.

Nust chief operations officer Browny Mutrifa says the land is 80 000m2, translating to eight hectares.

Lüderitz mayor Phil Balhao says the town council is excited and grateful for the partnership with Nust.

“The sale of the land signifies the long term commitment made by Nust, and these facilities and amenities will certainly attract more interested students to our town and will undoubtedly provide many more benefits and opportunities for our town and community,” he adds.
