Ohangwena roads take shape as contractors push for timely completion

Ohangwena governor Sebastian Ndeitunga says he is happy with the progress in road construction in the region.

He said this after visiting some road construction projects on Thursday.

This included the upgrade of the D4119 Omulondo and Oshuuli roads to gravel standard, as well as the 34km stretch of the Omukukutu-Omboloka road.

“As a governor, it is essential to assess government projects personally to evaluate their progress and quality. We’ve seen many projects abandoned or left incomplete in the past, but I am genuinely impressed with the contractors working on these roads. They are completing the work on time, ensuring that communities have access to necessary services,” Ndeitunga said.

Eponga Trading CC project manager Maria Shilongo-Ndeulita says the upgrading of the D4119 Omulondo-Oshuuli road is currently 60% complete and is expected to be finished by January next year.

“We are very pleased with the progress so far. Apart from some rains, we haven’t faced any significant challenges,” Shilongo-Ndeulita says.

Similarly, the Omukukutu-Omboloka road, under the management of Emirates Construction, has also seen noteworthy progress, with an expected completion date of July 2026. Construction on this road began in July 2024.

Managing director of Emirates Construction Joshua Haimbodi acknowledged that while there have been some delays due to severe rains – especially in March, which set them back by two weeks – they remain confident that the project will meet the July 2026 deadline.

“We are committed to delivering the completed work as expected,” Haimbodi
said.
