Okahandja divided over new CEO

THE Okahandja Town Council has appointed Martha Mutilifa as its new chief executive officer.

The chairperson of Okahandja town council’s management committee, Simson Mieze, told Nampa in an interview on Tuesday that the 57-year-old Mutilifa started working at the municipality on 19 October 2015.

“Yes, she is our new CEO, even though the council still has to discuss her employment contract at an extra-ordinary council meeting on Wednesday,” he said.

Mieze however added that since the appointment of Mutilifa last month, the Okahandja town council has been divided into two groups.

It is alleged the seven councillors failed to agree on the exorbitant rental of N$17 000 per month for the new CEO’s accommodation at a bed and breakfast establishment in the town.

Mieze said, as council management committee chairperson, he does not know how Mutilifa commenced her duties at the council because he never signed her employment contract as is required.

“I never signed her employment contract, and it was never presented to me,” he said, adding that this translates into Mutilifa being in office unlawfully until such a time her employment contract is signed by the council chairperson.

It is also alleged that Mutilifa had, shortly after her appointment, proposed to the council to have a personal assistant appointed for her – an issue which allegedly angered some councillors.

Mutilifa refused to comment on the issue on Monday and Tuesday.

Okahandja has been without a substantive CEO since January this year after former CEO Frans Enkali left before completing his resignation notice period.
