THE Omaheke region has made good developmental progress, specifically with the construction of the road between Gobabis and Aminuis and other road upgrading projects the region has undertaken.
This is according to National Council member and Omaheke regional councillor Phillipus Katamelo, who highlighted some of the progress made within the region throughout the year, during an interview with Nampa on Monday.
Katamelo said the council has committed itself to ensuring that the Gobabis-Aminuis road, which is halfway complete, is finalised within the 2017/2018 financial year.
“People have already started to see the benefit of this road which is aimed at uplifting the region,” he added.
The region also intends to create an eastern hub that will connect the Trans-Kalahari with the Trans-Caprivi road network, also including the road from Gobabis to Otjinene, and the road from Gobabis to Aranos aimed at alleviating traffic on the main road.
Katamelo said another road currently in the feasibility study stage, will be built at Epukiro.
He added that there are many more plans for the region, including the construction of a truck port at Gobabis, which will serve as a travel hub, and the development of a vocational training centre, “which is much needed in the region”.
