A thrilling conclusion to the Nedbank for Good Series is expected at the Omeya Golf Club tomorrow, where the top 20 players from the preliminary rounds will go head-to-head in the finals.
The players contesting the final event are Likius Nande, Cehesta Walters, Celonika Robbinson, Burger Bergh, Videlis Hanganda, Magnaem Simon, Edwin Kutara, Eveline Shilongo, Hermanus Strydom, Fanie Nel, Wilna Bredenhann, Riaan Coetzee, Justine Shikulo, Francois Binneman, Estelle Bothma, Yolanda Pienaar, Gerrit van Rooyen, Clarisa Chipfupa and Glenville Dantu.
The 2024 edition of the Nedbank for Good Series took its first tee in March, where Nande and Walters emerged victorious in the first round at Omeya. The series then moved to Gobabis for round two in April, where Robbinson and Johan Lewis came out on top, before the attention shifted to Tsumeb and Oshakati in June.
Round three at Tsumeb saw Videlis Hanganda taking honours in the men’s division, while Magnaem Simon won the ladies’ category.
At Oshakati, Antonius Amugongo emerged victorious in the men’s division, with Eveline Shilongo winning the women’s division in round four.
In July, the series went to Mariental, where a major milestone was achieved as the series reached the N$1 million mark, which accumulated from the onset of the series in 2020.
At Mariental, Strydom was the winner of round five. The series then shifted to Oranjemund for round six, where Pienaar and Peet van der Merwe were the victors in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively.
August was a busy month for the series, which saw the coastal leg host three events – at Henties Bay, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.
Round seven at Henties Bay saw Nel and Bredenhann emerge victorious, and Riaan Coetzee and Justine Shikulo winning at Swakopmund in round eight. Round nine at Walvis Bay saw Binneman and Bothma were the winners.
Round 10, which took place in Windhoek, saw Chipfupa and Dantu book the last spot in the finals.
“Every single year, this series keeps on being amazing,” says series organiser Dan Zwiebel.
He praises the women who participated in this year’s series, saying that by doing so, they are role models who are inspiring the younger generation to take up the sport.
“I’d like to thank every single player who teed it up over the year, every club who generously allowed us to use their establishment, all the different committees and every single person who supported the auctions. Our aim has always been to grow this series from strength to strength,” he adds.
The sponsors look forward to the finale and celebrating the impact of their investment, says Nedbank Namibia’s wealth management executive Biniam Ghirmatsion.
“At Nedbank Namibia, we live by the purpose of being money experts who do good, and seeing how much this series has grown over the years is testament to that purpose.
“Seeing the impact in the different initiatives we have supported from the inception of the series is incredible and we are geared to continue with that support for years to come.
“To the golf players taking part in the final on Friday, have fun on the golf course and remember that we are doing this for our communities,” says Ghirmatsion.
This year, the 10-game Nedbank for Good Series’ goal is to raise funds for Agra ProVision, whose aim is to train, service and support underserved agricultural communities directly.
