NAMIBIA’S first non-surgical reality makeover show has finally hit the airwaves. After years of planning and a few false starts last year, the very first episode of ‘Just Fabulous’ was screened on One Africa Television last night.
Hosted by popular television and radio personality Laurika Williams, who looked absolutely fabulous in a stunning Pambili creation, the show is produced and directed by Marinda Stein whose professional and creative eye ensured that the quality of the production is top notch and comparable to international standards. The panel of judges was made up of five representatives from the main sponsors of the show. Ockert Jansen from One Africa Television, Patricia Pickering from Bank Windhoek, Marna Shimper from Aqualand, Fresh FM DJ Azeal ‘Cheese’ Matsoarelle and Jackie Retief from the professional team based their final selection on the following criteria: all contestants must have shown a genuine and determined desire to change and the potential to be both physically and mentally transformed. After much secrecy and drama, the public has finally been introduced to the six contestants. They are Abraham Moses Vlees from Keetmanshoop, Peter Keys from Windhoek, Desiree Nanuses from Windhoek, Milka Muzengua from Karibib, Irene Jansen from Keetmanshoop and Maryna Piepmeyer from Swakopmund. They all have compelling stories and many have had very difficult lives. ‘We all are entitled to the grandest life possible and we are going to see to it that each of the six contestants get this – through body, spirit and mind,’ said Stein. These six contestants will be put through their paces, consulting a slew of professionals from doctors, biokineticists, dieticians, occupational therapists, dentists, skin and beauty therapists, image consultants and hair consultants. Altogether, over half a million Namibian dollars worth of professional services will be invested in these six hopefuls. The judges’ and viewers’ voices will count towards the contestants’ final score. At the end of this three-month journey, one lucky contestant will be announced as the overall winner, winning a year’s use of a brand-new Hyundai i10 car and many other prizes from Dikaios Salon, Shell, Fruit and Veg City, Home Corp, Torga Optics and Nando’s.Bank Windhoek and Aqualand are the show’s main sponsors. They will use the programme as a platform to address important lifestyle issues, equipping the contestants and the viewing public with invaluable knowledge on personal financial management and organic agricultural opportunities in Namibia.Dikaios Salon is co-producer of the show. Owner Adel Oosthuizen has long held the dream to use this programme to change people’s lives. ‘Namibia is hungry for a show just like Just Fabulous and I am excited to experience the change that this programme will bring to the lives of the six contestants and the lives of Namibians who will be watching. I have a passion for people and to be able to help make a positive change in the lives of others is a gift from God,’ she said. ‘Just Fabulous’ will air on Sundays at 20h00 on One Africa Television until May 31, when the show will reach its conclusion.
