Ondangwa man missing after sending distress message

A MAN from Iiyale village in the Oshikoto region has been reported missing after he sent a distress message to his wife, claiming he was in danger of being robbed.

According to national police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, Valde Hamatwi (42) was last seen at a grocery store at Oluno, at Ondangwa, on Thursday.

It is further alleged that he had earlier met his son at Omwandi gwaKamanya, to give him transport fare before they parted ways.

“At around 14h00, Hamatwi called his wife to confirm whether their son had reached home. However, when she tried to call him back at 15h00, his phone was off,” Shikwambi says.

She says later that evening, at around 18h00, Hamatwi sent his wife a message, saying he was in danger.

She says attempts to reach him after that were unsuccessful, and his phone has remained off.

“At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing black shorts, a grey T-shirt, and a navy blue shirt,” Shikwambi says.

The police have urged anyone with information on Hamatwi’s whereabouts to contact the spokesperson at Onethindi Police Station at 081 878 1753, or to report to the nearest police station.
