The Ondjola annual sports bash is set to make a 15th appearance close to Okahao from 23 to 26 December.

Under the tagline “preserving culture through sports”, the multi-sport event will be held inside Ondjola stadium.

The community from Tsandi District in Omusati region has hosted the festive season bash since 2009. It has grown from a football tournament to include netball, boxing, cycling, marathon and volleyball.

The non-profit youth recreational initiative regularly attracts up to 4 000 participants and spectators, mainly from the four ‘O’ regions, with others coming from the central and Erongo regions. Last year saw a record participation over 42 soccer teams, 12 volleyball teams and 6 netball in 2022, comparing to 8 teams in 2009 when it started,” says Page Kashikuka, the executive chairperson.

The bash is run by an executive committee comprising Page Kashikuka, Jack Iipinge, Kanu Kashikuka and Kriat Kamanya.

They are excited to welcome another fun-filled week, adding value to the local economy of Tsandi district while providing the youth with a positive platform to channel their energy.

“One of the most important objectives of Ondjola sports bash is to encourage the youth to combat crime, anti-social behavior and gender based violence during the festive season,” says Jack Ipinge, the event’s head of operations.

Namib Mills is the associate partner, with Poiyah Media the co-organiser. The first group of corporate entities that have come on board so far are Coca-Cola, Namforce and Trophy Palace.

“Top Score, the Taste of Namibia did not waver to come on board to support an initiative that aligns with the corporate goal of supporting community upliftment activities in the sports, arts and culture segment,” says Heikeh Sabati, the brand manager at Namib Mills.

“We are proud to be a supporting partner to the cause that elevates much, in a part of Namibia that is not penetrated yet by corporations. Namib Mills, with all of its products are well consumed by those from all corners of the country and therefore; it is critical for us to give back to bring development to this specific region,” Sabnati said.

Poiyah Media said that this edition promises to be bigger and better.
“We would like to thank the corporate companies that came on board through their investments because this will plough back to the infrastructure at the Ondjola Stadium,” said Ilke Platt, the founder of Poiyah Media.
