Ondonga king revives agricultural project

The Ondonga King Fillemon Shuumbwa yesterday re-inaugurated a gardening project that was the initiative of the late King Immanuel Kauluma Elias.

The project, that was initially created in 1990 is a 100 hectare piece of land situated at Omutse Gwondjamba in the Oshikoto region where agricultural produces such as mahangu, beans and other vegetables were cultivated for purpose of feeding Ondonga’s vulnerable such as orphans and people living with disability.

The project was under the leadership of the Nakaziko family, however after some years, no cultivation has been taking place there and the land lay idle.

In an effort to meet government half way, King Shuumbwa yesterday moved to revive the project for the same purpose.

“A few years after independence, the late king Elifas allocated this piece of land to community leaders at Omutse Gwondjamba to utilise the land and produce food for vulnerable members of our society, they had done that initially but for some reason the production here came to a halt, for many years this land lay idle. Today, we decided to revive this project and we shall start producing mahangu, maize, and many other products that can be used to feed vulnerable members of the Ondonga kingdom as well as provide food in times of drought,” said Shuumbwa.
