Namibian cleric bishop Lucas Katenda says it will be a grave mistake for elected parliamentarians to be entitled at the expense of service delivery.
Katenda says the scenario that late South African bishop Desmond Tutu painted about masses fighting the African National Congress that brought independence to South Africa will be a reality in Namibia some day if elected parliamentarians fail to meet the expectations of the electorate.
He was giving a sermon at the launch of the Indepndent Patriots for Change (IPC ) manifesto on Saturday.
“I know some of you are already thinking of the Landcruiser that you want to buy, but be reminded that you are going to the parliament to serve the people ,” Katenda said.
He said parliamentarians should remain accountable.
According to bishop Katenda, service delivery should be at the cornerstone of law making.
He said parliamentarians should be transparent, accountable, and able to deliver laws that better the lives of Nambians.
