One woman makes a difference

TEOPOLINA Nangolo is a remarkable woman who saw the need for a kindergarten in her neighbourhood.

At the time she was employed as a cleaner at NamPower and converted her shack into a classroom and got a teacher to teach the children. Parents in the Goreangab Informal Settlement are very poor and thus only contribute what they can towards the Dr Roman Hertzog Kindergarten. The Kindergarten has been in operation since 1998 and is running extremely well.Teopolina has in the meantime worked herself up to a security guard and bought a piece of land not far from the kindergarten in 2001.She has now finally paid off the loan. The land is fenced and has water and electricity. She wants to build toilets and classrooms on the land so that the children can attend a pre-school closer to their homes instead of walking kilometres to the nearest school.Although she has managed to pay off the land, the Municipality is now putting pressure on her to start building on it or she will lose the land and her total investment. She has some money put away to start with the building but it is not nearly enough.Teopolina also gives all 28 children who attend her kindergarten a Christmas party every year with extra food, presents and sweets, which she buys from her bonus.People who would like to support her remarkable effort and help with the construction of the classrooms or toilets and would like to donate either building materials of money can phone her at 081 128 8542 or 081 124 5469.This is a project which will greatly benefit the children of the impoverished Goreangab community.Parents in the Goreangab Informal Settlement are very poor and thus only contribute what they can towards the Dr Roman Hertzog Kindergarten. She has some money put away to start with the building but it is not nearly enough.Teopolina also gives all 28 children who attend her kindergarten a Christmas party every year with extra food, presents and sweets, which she buys from her bonus.People who would like to support her remarkable effort and help with the construction of the classrooms or toilets and would like to donate either building materials of money can phone her at 081 128 8542 or 081 124 5469.This is a project which will greatly benefit the children of the impoverished Goreangab community.
