Ongwediva breaks ground on N$1.5-million sport and recreation park

The Ongwediva Town Council is building a leisure park worth N$1.5 million.

Senior manager of planning and technical services David Mulokoshi says the construction of phase one of the project was expected to commence on Monday.

Up-Mark Investment CC has been awarded the tender to build the park, of which the completion date is earmarked for the first week of March next year.

“The park will consist of a volleyball court, picnic area, amphitheatre, seven-a-side soccer pitch, and children’s playing area.

“It will also have a skate park, outdoor gym, public open space, a venue hire area, owela games, and a cafe,” he says.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the park on Wednesday, Ongwediva mayor Taarah Shanyefu said the park will transform Ongwediva into a lively activity hub.

“We will have green spaces where families can picnic and our children can play,” he said.

Shanyefu said the construction of the park would provide the youth with jobs.
