Oosthuizen quits RCC

ROADS Contractor Company general manager of operations Peter Oosthuizen recently resigned, board chair Sonia Bergh yesterday confirmed.

Bergh also confirmed that Oosthuizen has been on leave for the past three months and that it was due to his deteriorating health.

She said Oosthuizen has been affected not only by media reports questioning his qualifications – which The Namibian reported had pushed Oosthuizen to resign from his position as acting chief of RCC in April – but other aspects also came into play.

“His wife has also been affected. He really tried his best to keep this company afloat,” said Bergh.

The chief executive officer, Tino !Hanabeb, yesterday said he cannot say when exactly the resignation was handed in but the company accepted the resignation last month.

The Namibian reported in November last year that Oosthuizen, who was paid N$130 000 per month, had not paid any income tax since the start of his employment in 2012, to which !Hanabeb responded that there is no tax liability.

“When I came here I did not find a tax liability for Oosthuizen. The company will do what it can to recoup through final package to pay back whatever is owed.”

“His last working day is 12 November […]. If he has chosen to sever his ties for one reason or the other, we don’t want to hold on to him […]. We wish him the best in his future endeavours,” said !Hanabeb.
