WINDHOEK – Orlando Pirates Football Club owner Axab Auchamb says the club is “dead” and he is working hard to revive it before the season starts.
Speaking to Nampa on Tuesday following the release of a Labour Court judgement which compelled the club to pay players their outstanding salaries from last season, Auchamb admitted that the club’s structures are non-existent at this point in time and he is trying to resuscitate it.
“I left the management of Pirates in 2015 after I handed over the club to Ali Akan with all the documentation. Akan says he resigned from the club, but he never handed over the club to me the same way I handed it over to him. So as it stands the club is dead,” he said.
On his part Akan was defiant, saying he resigned in February 2016 so he has nothing to do with Orlando Pirates.
“I left a long time ago, I do not know what you guys are trying to achieve with this, go and ask Auchamb, he knows everything. I do not sit on the management of the club anymore; people have to stop soiling people’s names, it’s not fair,” Akan fumed.
The Namibia Premier League is set to start on 16 September 2016. Most premier league clubs have started with their pre-season training, with Orlando Pirates players also back in pre-season training under the watchful eye of coach Lucky Kakuva regardless of the dark cloud that hangs over the administration of the club. – Nampa
