Oryx Properties officially launched its bursary and graduate programme in Windhoek on Thursday.

The property and commerce graduate programme was started three years ago, after the company realised there was a shortage of property skills within the industry.

Chief executive Ben Jooste said they started a trial version of the graduate programme that lasted for about 18 months.

Through the Namibia Property Association, the graduate programme aims to bring new skills into the market by combining local courses with courses from South Africa.

“We want to make good education available in short course form to property professionals and learn from some of the other industries,” he said.

Bursary and graduate candidates supervisor Ella Shipena said the candidates will be joining Oryx for a period of one year, and then three years on a regular basis.

Property graduate Daniel Hammond said the programme helped him pay back student loans and not rely on his parents for pocket money.

“I’d say, the programme helped with living costs and taking that strain off this final four years,” he said.
