The Oshana Regional Council has launched an investment conference media campaign aimed at attracting potential investors and improving economic growth and development in the region.

The Oshana Investment Conference further aims to create an environment that promotes investment and economic growth to improve the quality of life of the people of the region, regional governor Elia Irimari said.

He was speaking during the official launch of the conference’s media campaign at Oshakati last Thursday.

“This conference will serve as a platform for potential investors to explore the vast potential that Oshana has to offer – from agriculture to tourism, manufacturing to technology.

By attracting investment, we can create job opportunities, enhance infrastructure [development] and improve the overall well-being of our people. By working together, we can transform Oshana into a thriving economic hub, contributing to the growth of the nation,” he said.

Information minister Peya Mushelenga said the Oshana region is an ideal centre for trade and investment, considering the facilities and infrastructure it offers to businesses.

“The region boasts good road infrastructure, an airport with daily flights during working days and a railway station.

This makes it a gateway for trade between Namibia and Angola, which is within less than 100-kilometres’ reach.

There is reduced transport cost and time efficiency in the course of doing business in Oshana region,” he said.

Jeckonia Nangolo, Oshana Regional Council director for planning and economic development said the idea of the investment conference came about after the regional leadership pondered over the little economic development and growth in the region, while there are abundant resources.

“Little local economic development and growth often result in inadequate employment or high unemployment, as industries that are supposed to create needed employment are not diversifying their products and services to help generate more revenue for business expansion,” he said.

Nangolo added that the conference aims to bring together potential investors, industry players, service providers, marketers and consumers for business networking; present, exhibit and share Oshana regional potential investment opportunities; SME products and services and business innovations exhibitions.

About 250 local and international exhibitors are expected to showcase their products at the investment conference which is scheduled to take place from 23 to 24 August at Ongwediva.
